Rant: Reggie's Bet
Most have heard of Reggie's bet on New Super Mario Bros. Wii outselling either the Xbox 360 or PS3 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in three months. It is actually a fairly safe bet if one considers these few points.
April 2008: Mario Kart Wii outsells both versions of Grand Theft Auto 4 separately at launch.
Point #1: New Super Mario Bros on DS outsold Mario Kart DS.
Point #2: Grand Theft Auto 4 outsold Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
Point #3: The only single-SKU release to even reach the level of sales of even Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros. Brawl is Halo 3.
The conclusion is that Nintendo is both the cornerstone AND the millstone of the video game industry.
